RtI - Ogonosky Style

This spring, my district had the great opportunity to bring in Dr. Andrea Ogonosky for some training with the district level RtI committees. As soon as she began talking, I was in awe. That's one incredibly intelligent woman.
And then the panic set in - we are no where near the ballpark in RtI.
She spoke about Texas leading the nation in RtI litigation. Teacher's grade books, lesson plans and formative assessments are being subpoenaed as evidence that the student is receiving a valid education.
Yep. Made me stop breathing too.
After two fulls days of hearing her speak, my brain was more than muddled. But what I gathered the most from her discussions was that Tier 1 is the key to everything. Everything.
We must be IN the classrooms ensuring that our students are receiving evidenced based practices along with a rich and viable curriculum. We must SEE FIRSTHAND which of our teachers can deliver this to students and who cannot. It's time to separate the men from the boys...set the bar high...and reach beyond our goals.
It's go-time people. And I am ready.
