Wrapping it All Up

It's here - May 1st.

That time of year when as an administrator you truly begin the wind-down process while concurrently beginning the wind-up process. It's a tough time of year in a school altogether, but planning for the future while planning to end a school year - that's not for sissies.

I find myself this time of year honing my organizational skills. One MUST be organized to be a successful administration. However, to adequately thrive - not just survive - May, one must be uber organized.

Up until a few weeks ago I was feeling a little "off." I attributed it to the fact that I was operating an entire school without my assistant. But, I soon realized what I was missing:

My famous End of the Year To Do list.

You see, each year when I return from Spring break, I create the EOY TD list. I barricade myself up in the conference room and create a month-by-month list that is both color coded and chronological. It becomes my bible - the root of all organization and thriving the end of the school year.

Once I realized the error of my ways, I quickly found some time to meditate in my conference room with dry erase marker in hand. Within an hour I had the list created and my heart felt better just knowing I had a map to which guide me to June.

With today being the first of May, I will check my list in the morning to ensure I am on track.
