Flipping Instruction - We Are Rolling!

I am excited! Truly excited!! I met with my Fourth grade team yesterday to discuss the details of flipping instruction in their classrooms. To jumpstart our discussions, I sent the Flipping Resources links a week ahead of time. In addition, I sent a brief email with bulleted points of what to expect at our Flipping Meeting.

• What subject/content area will you be flipping?
• How will the students watch the clip?
• What will be the class activity in the classroom? What level of Bloom’s is this compared to what you normally do in the classroom?
• Are you interested in doing individual projects such as book trailers, etc?
• How can I help/support?

I will say, I was seriously impressed by my teachers readiness and ideas concerning flipping. They have chosen to work in two teams of teachers to implement this instruction strategy. One team is looking into pre-teaching vocabulary through the use of vodcasts and the other is creating vodcasts that model appropriate behavior. Both are needed within our school.

By having my teachers chose their instructional content, they are more willing to embrace the new change. And it has sparked some creative momentum!

• Ideas flying around in their heads…..
• Using the videos as part of independent centers
• Showing them on the document cameras
• Attaching them to the teacher websites
• Sending them to parents via smartphones
• Linking up to Xbox and Wii
• Using our district Moodle
• Posting on TeacherTube and YouTube

Can I just say, I’m thrilled. I work at Disneyland!
