Book Review: Literacy 2.0

One of my long standing professional development goals is to keep abreast with all things education. That's quite a large undertaking I might add. This weekend has provided me the opportunity to read several professional development books.

Presently, I am drawn to all things technology. I feel like with each passing moment, we are losing ground in the technological arena. Anyone who truly understands the world in which we live knows that with each passing second, we are getting farther and farther behind. It's inevitable. However, I vow to do whatever it takes to keep myself and my staff updated.

In enjoying the spring weather, I read Literacy 2.0 written by Nancy Frey, Douglas Fisher and Alex Gonzalez. As with all things published by Solution Tree, it was a worthwhile ready.

The overall expectation was set during the intro on pg 8 where a handy table listing technology actibities based in each strand is located. However, the book took a historical/philosopical turn. I was searching for a more technical guide to implemeting things such as Voki, Flickr, Ning, etc.

So the search continues. But don't let that take away the worthiness of this publication. It is definately a good read for administrators and educators alike. However, I feel my level of understanding the importance of technology is past the point of discussions presented.
