I'm Flipping Out Too!

If you've been following my blog lately, you'll notice that reverse instruction - aka - flipping instruction is on the forefront of my mind.

With the recent administration of the State Assessments, I have left my 4th grade team somewhat alone concerning their impeding flip. I hand delivered their cameras to them late last week and said, "Just play with it."

Meanwhile....

I still had the itch. The itch to flip.

So I did what any other elementary principal would do and I flipped out. All by myself.

I downloaded an online program to better use my laptop's built-in camera. Then I practiced a few sessions until I got the hang of it. And then....I flipped.

I recently conducted one of our weekly IFT (instructional focus team) team meetings. I took a few moments to review the past meeting and preview the upcoming meeting. My goal was to 1) improve communication between me and my IFT team, 2) get them used to viewing videos as a mode of communication and 3) expose them to the concept of flipping.

It worked. Beautifully!

I placed my video on our campus blog (here) on a separate page designated for IFT Information. I requested that they comment on the blog post. It's time to get comfortable utilizing those Web 2.0 skills.

Then I waited. (there's a lot of waiting in campus administration)

Sure enough, my ladies started responding. They thought previewing the upcoming meeting's information was the coolest idea ever. A few even requested information on how to create their own video!

The Administrative Flip has begun!
