In my previous post, Flippin Out Over Flipped Instruction, I stated my angst and concern over how I’m going to get this implemented. It’s hard to be an administrator when you see a good idea and you get all excited! Then, reality sets in and you wonder just how “crazy” are those teachers going to think I am!?
Well, I put on my thinking hat and formulated a plan. I am presently in the initial stages of the Fliping Rollout.
I utilize a weblog for communication with my staff. I update it weekly with all the pertinent information, dates, and other announcements. One of my goals is to use the blog as a staff development tool. Flipping Out was the perfect opportunity to do so! So here goes…
I developed a post briefly explaining what reverse instruction was and included several links to online blogs and research about flipping instruction. And then I made an offer that couldn’t be refused…I offered a Flip camera for two teachers who were willing to try this mode of instruction. Oh, and I threw in a packet of jean coupons. My teachers will do anything for jeans coupons.
I posted around 9 p.m. and then I waited.
I was jumping for joy the next morning as I received my first email from a staff member saying she’d give the Flip a try. It was 6 a.m. I was on cloud nine!
Since then, I’ve had four ladies offer to try it. I am overwhelmed with their readiness and willingness.
The next step….we’ll get to that in post soon. Meanwhile, I’m basking in administrator happiness!
